Lake Victoria's New Connection: Gen. Katumba Launches MV Rafiki

In a significant development for tourism and transportation, the Minister of Works and Transport, General Edward Katumba Wamala, officially unveiled the MV Rafiki, a state-of-the-art ferry capable of carrying up to 250 passengers. This groundbreaking initiative will revolutionize travel between the mainland and the vibrant Bukasa Island, located in the Kalangala District.
The MV Rafiki will provide a direct and efficient service, connecting Entebbe's Nakiwogo area to the heart of Bukasa Island. This new route is a testament to the collaborative efforts between the Ugandan government and Nation Oil Distributors Ltd (NODL), aiming to enhance water transportation safety, affordability, and reliability between Entebbe/Kampala and the picturesque Kalangala Islands.
General Wamala emphasized the government's dedication to promoting sustainable connectivity through water transport. He revealed ongoing plans to expand ferry services across Lake Victoria, with a focus on acquiring two massive ferries capable of accommodating over 500 passengers. These new vessels will further improve connectivity between the islands of Koome, Damba, and Busi and the mainland.
This ambitious project highlights the government's commitment to enhancing Uganda's transportation infrastructure, ensuring seamless travel experiences for residents and tourists alike. The introduction of the MV Rafiki marks a significant step forward in making Lake Victoria a hub of efficient and accessible water transportation.
