NBA's Streaming Revolution: Redefining NBA TV and the NBA App
The NBA is taking control of its broadcasting destiny. In a significant move, the league has announced a comprehensive overhaul of NBA TV and the NBA app, marking a new era in basketball media.
Since 2008, NBA TV and its streaming services have been under the operational control of Warner Bros. Discovery (WBD), but that changes with the 2025-2026 season. The NBA is reclaiming its broadcasting power, and here's why it matters.
Live Games and Exclusive Programming:
NBA TV will now showcase 60 exclusive regular-season games, kicking off with the defending champion Oklahoma City Thunder facing the Atlanta Hawks on October 25. This includes games from the WNBA and the NBA's development league, The G League. But it doesn't stop there. NBA TV will also broadcast international games from leagues like Australia's NBL, France's LNB, Germany's BBL, Spain's ACB, China's CBA, and South Korea's KBL.
A New Flagship Show:
The Association, a new flagship show, will take center stage, featuring renowned hosts and contributors such as MJ Acosta-Ruiz, David Fizdale, Rudy Gay, Chris Haynes, and John Wall. This show replaces NBA Gametime Live, previously produced by TNT Sports. The Association promises in-depth analysis and insights, bringing the basketball world closer to the action.
Digital Experience and More:
The NBA app will offer a seamless, always-on digital experience, providing fans with nonstop access to live games, original programming, and exclusive behind-the-scenes content. Additionally, the channel and app will expand their offerings with basketball podcasts, creator content from social media stars, and docuseries like Real Training Camp and Loud City: The OKC Thunder's Championship Season.
A Global Hub for Basketball Fans:
As NBA senior VP and head of the NBA app, Sara Zuckert, stated, NBA TV and the NBA app are designed to be a 'connected, global hub for basketball coverage.' This move signifies the NBA's commitment to delivering an immersive and comprehensive basketball experience to fans worldwide, ensuring they never miss a moment of the action.
